How did this happen!

Fayette,  MO

I went to go on the Internet yesterday and found a message from SPRINT that I had gone over my allotment of roaming charges only 9 days into this month.   I did not even know I had a limit of roaming charges.  I will be charged a substantial amount any time I use Internet roaming until May 15 when it resets.  Looking into my record, they tell me never before have I come anywhere near my limit.

They explained about the signal on my Mobile Hot Spot that indicates I am roaming.  I've looked at literature I received with the unit and see nothing about that.    Looking at the unit, I am roaming here in Fayette.

I am now on the College's system but it keeps going in and out.  We are volunteering at Central Methodist University.

The only explanation I have is that two other people also fed off my unit while we were in OK.   But that was only for a few days so who would have thought.

Now that I know what to look for - you can bet I will.

In the meantime, I have sore shoulders and back.   My assignment yesterday was to scrub down the bleachers in the Gym.   They have graduation next week.    I would not do this job for pay but here I am doing it for free!   Still more bleachers this morning.   Then will see what's next.

We're looking at what to do on the road for internet/TV. Thinking of switching to Verizon from AT&T and tethering. We'll need a MIFI as well, so we'll have to do the research. Money will be tight!

Roaming charges can turn into a hugely expensive proposition. Most Internet suppliers offer the ability to 'turn off' roaming so that you don't inadvertently use it. That's what I do when we're travelling just in case.

We have a Sprint aircard with no limits and no roaming charges. You might check with sprint about changing your plan. Ours is $60 a month. Not cheap, but for us better than worrying about limits when traveling.

That is awful, I had verizon and canceled it as the roaming charges and the card were starting to cost me a fortune once I can up to Lakeside. Some one told me about straight Talk from Walmart so I am now with them. Here in the Park we have free WiFi most of the time it is great. Back in Tucson and the rest of Southern,AZ I can use cricket air card.I don't know what is available in your areas but its worth looking into and there are no contracts. I have unlimited use on the phone and it is $50. including tx.
My air card is $40.

Be sure your computers, if you have PCs, aren't downloading and installing Windows updates automatically. They can be HUGE nowadays!

Hi again. I just double checked and we do indeed have a SPRINT aircard with unlimited data usage and unlimited roaming. It runs us $59.99 a month. Of course we've had the same device and plan for about 4 years now so it could be that they no longer offer this plan. It's a 3G aircard and the completely unlimited plan is the reason we haven't upgraded it! We'll need to buy the more expense Cradlepoint router to continue to use it, but figure it's worth it for us.
