Around the Blue Ridge Parkway

Linville Falls, NC

The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains
On Saturday after a good nights sleep it was time to do a little sight seeing of the area.   We drove to Linville Falls which is about a 20 mile drive from Marion.   Some of it was on very steep curving roads bringing us to the mountain tops.   Linville Falls is on the Blue Ridge Parkway at about milepost 317 in NC.

From the parkway, the walk is about one mile each way.  Along the walk you see several different falls.

Looking down at a falls.
The lower falls.
We only had 800 feet to climb to the top, but one of us (me) was just too tired!
We saw this little fellow outside the ranger station.

Yea, he's stuffed!
After the somewhat strenuous walk we drove down the parkway a bit.  Right off Milepost 328 is Orchard Altapass.  This must be quite the attraction in the area.  So many were there they had people directing where to park.
There were hayrides, a gift shop, small restaurant, live entertainment and apples galore.   It appeared that you could pick your own selection from their orchard.  They provided a plastic bag and people would walk the orchards picking however many and whatever variety of apple they wanted that would fit into the bag.  We treated ourselves to a fried apple pie with ice cream.

A blue grass band and some cloggers.
Looking down from the mountain.
Church services this morning was in the RV Rally Park pavilion.    After services we went to lunch at FATZ which must to be a chain of cafes here in the south.  We had dinner there last night with the folks who were on the project we just completed, but it was so good when friends from our previous project asked us to join them today, we gladly accepted.
Friends Carol and Ray Morrison from the Hill Country of Texas.
Okay- time to head over to the Pavilion.  It's Square Dance time.  We country dance (two-step, line dance, waltz, etc) but DO NOT SQUARE DANCE!    Hate the outfits!   But we will enjoy watching.  Just might be fun.

We hiked to Linville Falls back in 1999, and it was so beautiful. You sure can't beat the music and the dancing up there on the Parkway. It is one of our favorite places to visit.
